Journalism 677: Data Visualization

Journalism 677 Concepts and Tools for Data Analysis and Visualization, focused on using data to tell a story through effective visualizations and accurate data analysis.

For this project, I used USDA and PEW survey data to strategically choose a target audience for genetically modified organism messages. Due to its controversial nature, GMO messages are most effective with indifferent audiences. Using the PEW survey data, I compared multiple variables such as geographic location, education level, and political affiliation to perceived GMO safety. Using these visualizations I determined which audiences would most effectively receive GMO messages, that didn’t already agree with GMO science. The results were surprising.
